FOR APPLICANTS

The UD Doctoral School of History and Ethnology – in accordance with other doctoral trainings of the University of Debrecen – announces the admission procedure in the spring of each year. Applicants may submit their application for the 2024/2025 academic year in the disciplines of History and Ethnology according to the profile of the Doctoral School, which will be evaluated in three steps:

  • A formal check will be made upon the submission of the application material to ensure that the applicant has enclosed all the necessary documents and certificates with his/her professional material
  • The second part of the admission procedure is an oral examination. Prior to this, the members of the selection board of the Doctoral School review the pre-filed application material, which documents the applicant's past professional and scientific activities in detail
  • At the oral examination, the applicant shall report on his/her professional aptitude, knowledge of the submitted research topic, and previous academic work.

Application criteria:

  • University degree or equivalent, at least of good grade (in case of degrees obtained in the current or previous two academic years, see also 3. (8)). In the case of a foreign degree, a certified translation of the degree and the course record book or equivalent course list.Pursuant to Article 10 of the Organizational and Operational Regulations of the Doctoral School of History and Ethnology, the Doctoral School does not necessarily require a specialized degree for the admission procedure, but accepts all MA diplomas that are relevant to the chosen academic field.
  • a state-recognized, at least intermediate (B2) level, complex language examination (or equivalent nostrified language examination or language specialized degree) in the language necessary for practicing the profession.

  • A further criterion of the application is at least one publication written (or accepted for publication according to the attached editorial certificate) in a professional publication forum or 1st, 2nd or 3rd place at the National Scientific Students' Associations Conference.

Application deadlines:

  • For full-time, fee-paying doctoral education and individual preparation:Sunday, 14 April 2024 -  Wednesday, 15 May 2024
  • For individual preparationin other periods: Friday, 1–15 November 2024.

Admission examination and notification:

  • Date of the admission examination for applicants who applied until 15 May: 1–30 June 2024
  • Date of the admission examination for applicants who applied under individual preparation until 15 November: 20 November 2024–22 December 2024
  • A separate postal notice will be sent regarding the exact time of the admission

Admission decision in the spring admission procedure: until 15 July 2024

Admission decision in the autumn admission procedure: until 12 January 2025

A separate postal notice will be sent regarding the admission results.
