Information on Semesterly Chapter Submission and Review

Dear Supervisors, Dear Students,

We would like to draw the attention of supervisors and students to the fact that the section of the TNDI Regulations concerning semesterly chapter submissions has been amended. According to Section 13/l:

“At the end of the 4th semester and the 5th–8th semesters, chapters must be submitted not only to the supervisor but also to the program secretaries in PDF format. At the end of the 5th–8th semesters, the submitted chapter must be reviewed in writing not only by the supervisor but also by an expert invited by the supervisor. In order to obtain the credits, both the supervisor’s and the invited expert’s approval are required. The invited expert may be an internal or external lecturer or researcher.”

In line with this new regulation, students enrolled in the post-comprehensive-exam phase of training must have each semesterly dissertation chapter evaluated both by their supervisor and by an additional academically competent reviewer. The completed chapters, together with the supervisor’s evaluation and the second opinion, should then be forwarded to the program secretaries (History Program: Ádám Novák; Ethnography Program: Bazil Telenkó).

The necessary evaluation forms for supervisors and external reviewers are available for download in .doc format.

For students of the History Program, the deadlines for mandatory dissertation chapter submissions in the academic year 2025/2026 are as follows:

  • 1st semester: Submission deadline: 15 December 2025; deadline for receipt of reviews: 15 January 2026.

  • 2nd semester: Submission deadline: 31 May 2026; deadline for receipt of reviews: 30 June 2026.

We kindly ask all students and supervisors to act in accordance with these regulations.

Please note that in the case of the 4th semester chapter, the review is included in the chapter defense protocol, so no separate action is required.

Indication of Doctoral School Affiliation in Publications

On 20 June 2019, the Senate of the University of Debrecen amended Section 9.1 of the University’s “Copyright Regulations and Publication Guidelines” as follows:

“For PhD students and doctoral candidates, dual affiliation—indicating both the doctoral school and the institute—is mandatory. The doctoral school should be indicated as follows:

[University name], [Doctoral School name]

Examples:

  • Debreceni Egyetem, Táplálkozás- és Élelmiszertudományi Doktori Iskola
University of Debrecen, Doctoral School of Nutrition and Food Sciences

  • Debreceni Egyetem, Laki Kálmán Doktori Iskola
University of Debrecen, Kálmán Laki Doctoral School of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences

If it is not possible to indicate multiple institutional affiliations in a publication, the name of the doctoral school must be indicated in another possible location (e.g., in a footnote or in the acknowledgements).”

We kindly ask all PhD students and doctoral candidates affiliated with our doctoral schools to comply with these regulations when publishing future work.
